How to Tie a Bow Tie by Countess Mara

For over eighty years the Countess Mara brand has forged a path of distinction, quality and a unique style as originally ingrained in founder “Countess” Lucilla Mara de Vescovi Whitman's DNA. Born in Rome in 1893 to a family with a titled history and having studied music, art and design, Mara was inspired to design ties after her husband Malcolm Whitman, a former national amateur tennis champion and textiles manufacturer, challenged her to do better when she deemed his ties rather dull. Mara accepted the challenge and the seeds of a successful tie designer were planted. In 1935, upon her husband’s death and from a desire to create a life different from that of a socially well-off widow, Countess Mara and a men's tie business was born.
